We’re Hiring – Brewer

Brewery News

By: Kiera Savage

Thornbridge is one of the most critically acclaimed and respected craft breweries in the UK. Operating from our site in Bakewell, in the Peak District National Park we produce beer for cask, keg, can and bottle to supply to over 30 countries worldwide.

Over the course of the last year, we have created a new taproom adjacent to the main brewery, providing pizza and 16 lines of Thornbridge beer. The building also houses our shop and we have taken the opportunity to bring the original 10bbl brewhouse from Thornbridge Hall down to the Riverside site to sit in the back of the taproom. Extra tanks are currently being installed, which will bring the brewery up to 10 brews per week (two per day, Monday to Friday) of mainly cask beer, but occasional keg specials or barrel aged brews. A small bottling line next to the brewhouse will be responsible for packaging our 375ml barrel aged range.

We are looking for a brewer, preferably with experience on a similar sized kit, that can join the team and be responsible for the day to day aspects of running a 10 bbl brewhouse. Reporting into our Technical Brewer, Production Manager and Head Brewer you will be working with two brewing operatives that will assist you in brewing, monitoring fermentations, transfers, dry hopping, racking and tank/brewhouse CIPs. You will be fully trained in using our QA/QC systems to ensure the production of consistently high quality beer that the whole team can be proud of.

All necessary training will be provided and we believe in lifelong learning being important to the ongoing development of our staff. The company will provide the funding necessary to complete relevant IBD brewing qualifications if you do not already have them, but would like to study towards them. We’re looking for a candidate with good personal skills, a positive attitude and the passion to create great beer. Salary will be dependent on experience.

The beer industry has a lot of work to do in improving diversity across all areas. According to the SIBA British Craft Beer Report 2020 women now account for 26.1% of the workforce in SIBA breweries. Of that 26.1% only 11% are employed as brewers. We would like to strongly encourage applications from women and people from diverse backgrounds of race, culture, sex and gender. If you have a passion for great beer, working in a beautiful part of the world and would like to join the team please get in touch. Even if you aren’t suitable for this particular role, as an expanding company with many departments there will always be upcoming opportunities.
